Necrosis, a beautiful word (today).

quirkSo generally I would not say that “necrosis” is a lovely word, but when it is applied to the pathology report on the 3 tumors that were removed with half my liver it sure is! Especially when the report says the 3 were 50-70% necrotic (ie: dead and dying). That means all the hard work (mental, physical, spiritual), the prayers from beyond, the chemo, and all the love was working! Is working!

I still have the last leg of the quadrathalon to go: 3 months/6 rounds of “cleano”. Which, for reasons that should be obvious, I am completely not looking forward to. But I am looking forward to closing this chapter in my journey. Right now I am regrowing my liver, 80% in 4 weeks. Totally amazing organ! I have been feeling better than I was told I would. However, I am taking it easy. I rest/nap a fair amount and eat like crazy. I have NEVER felt as hungry as  I have since this surgery. Truly famished. I can eat a meal, feel full up to my throat, and then 5 minutes later feel like I haven’t eaten a thing. Grow liver, grow!

I have an appointment with my amazing and lovely liver surgeon, Dr Christina Ferrone, on Friday the 19th of June. Goddess forbid any of you should ever need a portion of your liver removed, but if so, she is the ONE. Anyhooo, she’ll do my blood work and then let me know when it is safe to restart “cleano”. If everything goes on schedule I will start again the end of June and finish (with arms raised, fists pumping) the first week of September.  It’s not going to be the summer I would have wished for; no swimming (except in hot tubs), avoid the sun… feel crappy… ah well. The saving grace is apparent: there will be more summers in my life to enjoy. Hallelujah.

For now, today, the staples are out, I stand upright, have hiked our little Mt Peg, and every day is a happy blessing. As always and forever, love to you all!

Lina, How great to hear you are mending, strong and ready for the last leg. You are a powerful woman with powerful loved ones. Don’t forget to look me up if your “cleano” is local. I am always happy to come pass the time. I slept through most of my infusions but if you find yourself awake, bored and wanting company don’t hesitate to call x5-2557.
