Freedom & Family

Darlings, I was sprung from the joint yesterday around 10 a.m.  Hip-Hip-Hip Hoorah! Right now I am sitting in front of a beautiful fire at my parents house in Vermont with my excellently generous and loving sister, Lorna, typing and trying to evade an on coming sneeze.

i'm freeAdrian came by with Poppy and Heikke in the afternoon. So delicious to see them.  Poppy came right to me with hugs, kisses and a moment of forehead to forehead meeting of the eyes. Just checking in to see if I was okay all the way through, I guess. Heikke was all happy and huggy and wanted to play right at my feet the entire time. And, as always, I had to replicate my scar on his round little tummy in pen. Then he had to go show everyone and exclaim ” oh dis is sore.”  Although they were disappointed that neither was I coming home nor were they staying over here…holy smokes was it great to sleep undisturbed last night. Whew.

The weather is decidedly rainy and therefore not making me feel like I am missing out on some great outdoor adventure. My belly feels alright; a little sore, can’t really lie on my right side. My back is more sore, I guess from compensating for the belly muscles and from sitting up yesterday more than I had since the surgery. Grateful for heating pads, am I.

For everyone in Boston (and there are A LOT of you) that didn’t get ot visit me in the hospital, no worries! I would MUCH rather see you for a visit to our new digs in Vermont, or Rhode Island, or well frankly anywhere else but the hospital.

“When I stand before thee at the day’s end, thou shalt see my scars and know that I had my wounds and also my healing.”

– Rabindranath Tagore

oh you do delight my soul!!! love that you drew a “scar” on your son..how wonderful…scars are so intriguing … and probably the first truly sexy thing I ever did when I was around 13– on a hot summer day, bunch of friends laying in the sand at the beach, me, heart pounding throat dry-delicately traced with my trembling fingers the scar on the heartbreakingly cute boy’s chest…oh my…and asking what it was from…him allowing it…first time I ever touched a boy- except wrestling them…!!! well candles are still ablaze incense wafting, prayers are said, swirls of light being sent…and thrilled that you are in Vermont!!! and in the bosom of loving family and actually got sleep!!! and I imagine food…what a miracle this all is….you look so incredibly beautiful!!! ..you dance in my heart day and night… where in Vermont are you? I am ready for some warm and sunny myself…remember you are going through a thousand transitions every hour so be kind to yourself… lay near a window and form pictures from the clouds, you’ll know your all better when you start watching reruns of old game shows eating B&J right out of the carton…a trillion kisses to you and all who surround you!!! bless you for the updates!!!

I am thrilled to see that you are at home. Now you can really recuperate!
But please keep blogging so that I can keep track of you! You look great-your eyes are clear (very good sign) and you got an infusion of the “love bugs” (Heikke and Poppy).
    Wonderful.

    Love and hugs.

    Dear lina,
Never have i felt the comforts of home as much as seeing you out of the hospital… even though you are very versitile and fit in many enviroments i must say the hospital is not your best fit…for sure… life has so many ups and downs and watching you crawling your way up from the pirate ship of ca feels glorious…. bravo to you for your strenght, beauty and ability to so exsquisitely capture in so few words the long journey upwards…. As challenging as recovery is from here it seems so much better than pre surgery. I know from my own experiences sitting around waiting for something like that can be the worst part… better to get it over with… and now it is… yeah/// love ya babe

So glad you’re healing among the maples.

Speaking of grouchy, below is another one of my favorite poems by Hafiz.

Thinking about you everyday. Lots of love… Fran

I KNOW THE WAY YOU CAN GET

I know the way you can get
When you have not had a drink of Love:

    Your face hardens,
    Your sweet muscles cramp.
    Children become concerned
About a strange look that appears in your eyes
Which even begins to worry your own mirror
    And nose.

Squirrels and birds sense your sadness
And call an important conference in a tall tree.
They decide which secret code to chant
To help your mind and soul.

Even angels fear that brand of madness
That arrays itself against the world
And throws sharp stones and spears into
    The innocent
    And into one’s self.

O I know the way you can get
If you have not been drinking Love:

    You might rip apart
Every sentence your friends and teachers say,
    Looking for hidden clauses.

You might weigh every word on a scale
    Like a dead fish.

You might pull out a ruler to measure
From every angle in your darkness
The beautiful dimensions of a heart you once
    Trusted.

I know the way you can get
If you have not had a drink from Love’s
    Hands.

That is why all the Great Ones speak of
    The vital need
    To keep remembering God,
So you will come to know and see Her*
    As being so Playful
    And Wanting,
    Just Wanting to help.

    That is why Hafiz says:
    Bring your cup near me.
    For all I care about
Is quenching your thirst for freedom!

All a Sane woman* can ever care about
    Is giving Love!

(*FM took the liberty of changing to feminine)

What welcome news! I’m so glad that you’re out of the hospital and in good hands. I think of you many times each day. It’s such a huge relief to know that you’re in more comfort now. Now you can really dedicate yourself to recovering your full health! I am so amazed and excited that you’ve reached the end of your planned treatment with such incredible success. We’ll keeping on sending our concentrated healing energy until you’re feeling strong and back on your feet. Keep up the good work! I know you can – you’re the bees-knees!

Glad you are in the warm and helpful environment in Vermont. We were most admirous of Georgia in her play last night. She played the young daughter in Tartouffe by Moliere. She was fabulous and you would have been proud. Someone took a videotape and I hope you can get a copy. Hugs and kisses to you and Adrien and Anne and Arthur and Poppy and Heike.
